AEHN Working Paper #73
Welfare Experiences of Portuguese Angolan Miners: A Longitudinal Comparative Study, 1918-1974
Leo Dolan is a final-year PhD researcher in the Department of Social Science at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. His research examines the intersection of corporate power, labour markets, and economic development in 20th-century Africa, with a particular focus on concessionary companies in extractive industries. His work engages with broader debates on monopsony power, institutional change, and how forced labour impacts firm profitability, exploring these questions by leveraging the heterogeneity in colonial governance across African empires. Starting in the fall semester of 2025, Leo will begin a postdoctoral fellowship at UC3M.
